Epicystis crucifer is a fascinating sea anemone species prized for its unique appearance and moderate care requirements. Available in various sizes, this anemone can be a striking addition to a marine aquarium.
Care and Husbandry: Epicystis crucifer requires moderate care, making it suitable for aquarists with some experience in keeping invertebrates. It thrives best in stable water conditions with regular monitoring of parameters.
Feeding: This species benefits from supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood. Feeding 1-2 times per week is generally sufficient to maintain health and vibrancy.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Epicystis crucifer is considered reef safe with caution. While it generally coexists peacefully with other reef inhabitants, care should be taken to avoid placing it too close to corals or other sessile invertebrates, as it may extend its tentacles and sting neighbouring species.
Placement and Environment: Provide moderate water flow and moderate lighting to mimic its natural habitat. Placement on rockwork with some protection from strong currents is ideal. Avoid direct intense lighting which may cause stress.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water parameters.
Additional Notes: Regular water changes and maintaining stable salinity, temperature, and pH will promote longevity and health. Observe for signs of stress or poor water quality, such as retracted tentacles or discolouration.
