The Ctenochaetus flavicauda, or Flavicauda Tang, is a striking addition to any marine aquarium. This medium-sized tang is renowned for its bright yellow tail and subtle body markings, making it a visually appealing and functional member of your tank community.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Flavicauda Tang coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. It is best kept singly or in a large tank with ample space to reduce territorial disputes, especially with other tangs.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, this species thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore flakes, pellets, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and grazing surfaces. Maintain stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Reef Compatibility: The Flavicauda Tang is reef safe and can be housed in reef aquariums without harming corals or invertebrates.
Care Level: Moderate care is required, with attention to diet and water quality to prevent common tang ailments such as ich and lateral line erosion.
