The female Cirrhilabrus rubeus, commonly known as the Ruby Wrasse, is a stunning addition to any marine aquarium. Known for its vibrant red hues and peaceful temperament, this species is a favourite among experienced reef keepers.
Temperament and Compatibility: Cirrhilabrus rubeus females are generally peaceful and compatible with a wide range of tank mates, including other peaceful wrasses and reef-safe species. They can be shy initially but become more confident with time.
Diet: This wrasse thrives on a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplementing with marine flake or pellet foods designed for carnivorous fish is recommended to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH around 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow and lighting are suitable, mimicking their natural reef habitat.
Reef Compatibility: Cirrhilabrus rubeus females are considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and invertebrates without issue, provided they are well-fed and stress-free.
Available in various sizes, these females offer flexibility for aquarists looking to add a splash of colour and peaceful activity to their marine tanks.
