The Cheilinus fasciatus, or Banded Wrasse, is a visually stunning addition to marine aquariums, prized for its distinctive banded markings and dynamic swimming behaviour. This medium-sized wrasse is best suited to experienced hobbyists who can provide the stable environment and care it requires.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, the Banded Wrasse can coexist with other robust fish species but may show territorial behaviour towards smaller or more passive tank mates. It is advisable to avoid housing with very small or timid fish. Compatibility with reef invertebrates is generally good, but caution is advised as wrasses may prey on small crustaceans.
Diet: Cheilinus fasciatus is carnivorous, thriving on a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets. Feeding should be done 1-2 times daily to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, replicating its natural reef habitat.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Lighting should be moderate to mimic natural reef environments.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Typically reaches up to 20 cm in length.
