Chaetodontoplus septentrionalis, commonly known as the Northern Angelfish, is a visually striking species prized for its vibrant colours and elegant swimming behaviour. This extra large specimen is perfect for advanced hobbyists with ample aquarium space.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to its size and specific dietary needs.
Temperament: Generally semi-aggressive; it can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish or similar-shaped species. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in a suitably sized tank.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) is advised to accommodate its active swimming and territorial behaviour.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While it may be kept in a reef environment, it has a tendency to nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clams, so careful monitoring is essential.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needs.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress and territorial disputes.
Origin: Native to the northwestern Pacific Ocean, particularly around Japan and Korea.
Maximum Size: Can reach up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
Ensure stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and excellent water quality to maintain health.
