The Large Batfish (Chaetodipterus faber) is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium, prized for its distinctive disc-shaped body and graceful swimming style. This tank-bred specimen ensures better acclimation and reduces wild collection impact.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Large Batfish coexists well with similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid housing with very small or highly territorial species to prevent stress or injury.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, this species thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily supports optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential size and active swimming behaviour, a minimum tank volume of 300 litres is recommended. Provide ample open swimming space with some rockwork or artificial structures for shelter.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow to mimic natural habitats.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally peaceful, the Large Batfish may occasionally nip at smaller invertebrates or delicate corals, so monitor interactions closely.
With proper care, this tank-bred Large Batfish can become a stunning focal point in a well-maintained marine aquarium.
