Centropyge woodheadi, commonly referred to as Woodhead’s Angelfish, is a captivating marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and unique patterning. This medium-sized angelfish is a striking addition to mature reef aquariums and is best suited for aquarists with some experience in marine fish care.
Care Level: Moderate care is required to maintain optimal health. This species thrives in stable, well-maintained marine environments.
Temperament: Generally semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish, so careful consideration is needed when selecting tank mates.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and high-quality angelfish pellets or flakes. Supplement with vegetable matter to support digestive health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territories.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While it can be kept in reef tanks, it may nip at soft corals, clam mantles, or sessile invertebrates. Monitor behaviour closely.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure good water quality with stable parameters.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with caves and crevices for hiding and grazing. This helps reduce stress and territorial aggression.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 12 cm (approximately 4.7 inches).
