Centropyge woodheadi, commonly known as Woodhead’s Angelfish, is a captivating species prized for its vivid blue and yellow coloration. This large marine angelfish is a peaceful addition to mature reef aquariums and is best suited to experienced aquarists due to its specific care requirements.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Centropyge woodheadi can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar dwarf angelfish species. It is compatible with a variety of peaceful community fish but caution is advised when housing with other angelfish. Avoid aggressive tankmates to reduce stress.
Diet: This species is omnivorous, thriving on a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations. Regular feeding of meaty and vegetable matter supports vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Stable water parameters and excellent filtration are essential.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, Centropyge woodheadi may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clam mantles. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and moderate water flow are ideal to mimic natural reef conditions and support overall health.
Origin: Native to the western Pacific Ocean, including areas around Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches) in length.
