Centropyge multispinis, commonly known as the Multispine Angelfish, is a captivating dwarf angelfish species prized for its vivid colours and intricate patterning. This small marine fish is best suited to experienced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and territorial nature.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires a mature, stable aquarium environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May nip at corals and sessile invertebrates; monitor closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure good water quality with stable parameters.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress and territorial disputes.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 10 cm (4 inches).
Due to their territorial nature, it is recommended to keep only one Multispine Angelfish per tank unless the aquarium is very large and well-structured. Regular monitoring and a varied diet will help maintain vibrant colours and good health.
