Caesio teres is a visually captivating snapper species prized for its bright colours and active schooling nature. This large variant is best suited for marine aquarists with ample space and experience in maintaining larger, active fish.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Caesio teres thrives in groups and should be kept in schools of at least 5 individuals to promote natural behaviour and reduce stress. They are compatible with other peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates but may become skittish around highly aggressive species.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, this species benefits from a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily helps maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to their active swimming habits and potential size, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended. Provide plenty of open swimming space along with some rockwork or coral structures for shelter.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are standard for marine fish and should be adjusted to support any live corals or invertebrates in the system.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, Caesio teres may occasionally nip at small invertebrates or delicate coral polyps, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
