Astrabe sp. is a genus of small gobies that are popular among marine aquarium enthusiasts for their peaceful nature and interesting behaviour. Due to limited species-specific data, care recommendations are conservative and based on general goby husbandry best practices.
Temperament and Compatibility: Astrabe gobies are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive fish species. They are suitable for community reef tanks but should be housed with similarly sized or larger tank mates to avoid stress.
Diet: These gobies are carnivorous and thrive on a varied diet including live or frozen meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplementing with high-quality marine pellets or flakes is recommended to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 60 litres (approximately 15 gallons) is advised to provide adequate swimming space and territory. The aquarium should have plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging, as well as a sandy substrate to mimic their natural environment.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to keep water quality high.
Reef Compatibility: Astrabe sp. is considered reef safe with caution, as individual behaviour may vary. They generally do not harm corals but may occasionally disturb small invertebrates.
