Amphiprion tricinctus, commonly known as the Clark’s Clownfish, is a striking species native to the Pacific Ocean. Recognisable by its bright orange body and three distinct white bands, this clownfish adds vibrant colour and activity to any marine aquarium.
As a small to medium-sized fish, Amphiprion tricinctus typically grows to around 10 cm (4 inches), making it suitable for tanks starting from 75 litres (20 gallons). This species is known for its hardy nature and relatively peaceful temperament, although it can be territorial, especially when paired or kept with other clownfish.
In terms of diet, Amphiprion tricinctus is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank conditions should be stable with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Moderate water flow and lighting are suitable, mimicking their natural reef environment. Providing live rock and anemones or substitute hosts can help replicate their natural habitat and encourage natural behaviours.
Amphiprion tricinctus is generally reef safe but should be kept with caution around certain invertebrates and other clownfish species to avoid territorial disputes. This species is a fantastic choice for marine aquarists seeking a colourful, active, and relatively easy-to-care-for clownfish.
