The Large Tank-Bred Clownfish (Amphiprion percula) is a highly sought-after species for marine aquarium hobbyists due to its vibrant colours and hardy nature. Recognised by its bright orange body with three distinctive white bands outlined in black, this clownfish adds a splash of colour and personality to any reef or marine tank.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and territorial, Amphiprion percula can be kept singly or in pairs. They coexist well with other peaceful fish but may show aggression towards conspecifics or similar clownfish species. Ideal tank mates include gobies, blennies, and small wrasses.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, they thrive on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding 2-3 times daily in small amounts is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4 are essential. Moderate water flow and lighting conditions suitable for reef tanks are ideal.
Reef Compatibility: This species is considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and invertebrates without risk of predation or damage.
Additional Care: Providing anemones such as Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla gigantea is optional but can enhance natural behaviours. However, clownfish will thrive well without anemones if suitable hiding places such as live rock are available.
