The Amphiprion ocellaris (Widebar) is a popular and visually appealing variant of the common clownfish, distinguished by its notably broad white bars across a vivid orange body. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier, more adaptable fish with reduced risk of wild population impact.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and hardy, the Widebar clownfish can be kept singly or in pairs. They are compatible with many other peaceful marine species but may exhibit territorial behaviour, especially when paired or during breeding. Avoid housing with aggressive or much larger fish.
Diet: Omnivorous and easy to feed, they accept a variety of foods including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and good filtration are essential.
Reef Compatibility: This species is reef safe and can be kept in reef aquariums with corals and invertebrates, provided there is sufficient space and hiding places.
Additional Care: Providing anemones or suitable substitutes can encourage natural behaviours, though they are not strictly necessary. Regular water changes and monitoring of water quality will promote health and longevity.
