The Bicolor Angelfish (Centropyge bicolor) is a visually stunning marine fish popular among advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts. This tank-bred specimen ensures better adaptation to captive conditions and reduces wild collection impact.
Appearance: The Bicolor Angelfish is instantly recognisable by its vivid yellow front half and deep blue rear half, creating a striking contrast. Its compact size and bold colours make it a standout addition to suitably sized reef or fish-only aquariums.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards similar angelfish or smaller peaceful species. It is best kept singly or as a mated pair in a well-established tank. Avoid housing with very small or timid fish to prevent stress.
Diet: A varied omnivorous diet is essential for optimal health. Offer high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae. Supplement with live rock grazing opportunities to mimic natural feeding behaviour.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories. Maintain stable water parameters typical for reef aquariums: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, the Bicolor Angelfish may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clam mantles. Monitor closely if kept in reef setups.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water conditions, a varied diet, and careful tankmate selection.
