Haemulon flavolineatum, commonly referred to as the French Grunt, is a visually striking snapper species featuring bright yellow longitudinal stripes on a silver body. This small, tank-bred specimen is ideal for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a peaceful yet active fish to enhance their display.
Temperament and Compatibility: The French Grunt is generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger fish to avoid stress. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species as it may outcompete them for food.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should be well-established with stable water parameters and moderate water flow to mimic its natural reef-associated habitat.
Water Parameters: Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and stable nitrate and phosphate levels.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, the French Grunt may occasionally nip at small invertebrates or coral polyps, so monitor behaviour closely if housed in reef systems.
Origin: Not Provided (Tank-Bred specimen)
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in captivity.
