Caesio cuning, commonly known as the Blue and Gold Fusilier, is a striking snapper species prized for its vibrant blue and yellow colouring and active schooling behaviour. This extra large, tank-bred specimen is an excellent choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts looking to add dynamic movement and colour to their reef or large fish-only systems.
Temperament and Compatibility: Caesio cuning is generally peaceful and best kept in groups of five or more to encourage natural schooling behaviour. It coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates but may become stressed if housed with overly aggressive species. Avoid keeping with large predatory fish that may view it as prey.
Diet: This species is omnivorous, feeding primarily on plankton and small invertebrates in the wild. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its active swimming nature and potential size, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended. Provide ample open swimming space with moderate to strong water flow to mimic natural reef currents. The fish appreciates a well-established aquarium with live rock for shelter and grazing.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, Caesio cuning may nip at small invertebrates or delicate corals, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Origin: Not Provided (Tank-Bred specimen)
