Acropora spp. (Coral Sea) – Medium is a stunning small polyp stony (SPS) coral prized for its intricate branching structure and vibrant colours. Originating from the Coral Sea, this coral is a fantastic addition to mature reef aquariums where stable water conditions and strong lighting are maintained.
Care Level: This coral is recommended for experienced aquarists due to its sensitivity to water quality fluctuations. Consistent parameters and attentive husbandry are essential for healthy growth.
Lighting Requirements: Acropora spp. thrive under strong lighting, ideally provided by high-output LED, T5, or metal halide systems. Aim for PAR levels between 250-400 µmol/m²/s to support optimal photosynthesis.
Water Flow: Moderate to high water flow is necessary to ensure effective gas exchange and nutrient delivery, while preventing sediment accumulation on the coral’s surface.
Placement: Position this coral higher in the tank to maximise light exposure, ensuring adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to reduce aggression and allow for growth.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals that may sting or overshadow it.
Additional Notes: Regular monitoring and supplementation of trace elements will support vibrant colouration and skeletal development. Fragging should be performed carefully to avoid stress.
