This small variant is suitable for larger home marine aquariums where it can be provided with ample space and a peaceful environment.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Painted Sweetlips require stable water parameters and a well-maintained aquarium.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be shy. Best kept with similarly sized, non-aggressive tank mates.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) to provide sufficient swimming space and reduce stress.
Lighting & Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow mimic their natural reef-edge habitats.
Placement: Provide plenty of hiding spots with live rock formations and open swimming areas. Avoid aggressive tank mates that may harass the fish.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 40 cm in adulthood, though this small variant will be smaller initially.
Due to their size and temperament, Painted Sweetlips are best suited to experienced marine aquarists who can provide the necessary care and environment for this species to flourish.
