Condylactis gigantea, commonly referred to as the Giant Caribbean Anemone, is a striking and robust anemone species popular among marine aquarium enthusiasts. This medium-sized specimen can add vibrant colour and dynamic movement to your reef or fish-only marine setup.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended. This species is hardy but requires stable water parameters and regular feeding to thrive.
Feeding: While Condylactis gigantea can derive some nutrition from photosynthesis via its symbiotic zooxanthellae, it benefits greatly from supplemental feeding. Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This anemone is generally reef safe with caution. It can sting nearby corals and may move around the tank, so provide adequate space to prevent damage to neighbouring species. It is compatible with certain anemonefish species but may not be suitable for all tank inhabitants.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is ideal to support its photosynthetic needs without causing stress. Water flow should be moderate to low to mimic natural conditions and avoid damaging its delicate tentacles.
Placement: Place on a stable rock or substrate area with enough space for expansion. Avoid high flow areas and ensure it cannot drift into corals or other sensitive tank mates.
Origin: Native to the Caribbean Sea.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in diameter under optimal conditions.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 100 litres (approximately 25 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water quality.
