Trichonotus setiger is a distinctive marine fish prized for its slender body and subtle colouration. This species is best suited for marine aquarium enthusiasts with some experience due to its specific care needs.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Trichonotus setiger coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid housing with highly territorial or predatory species to reduce stress.
Diet: This species is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including live or frozen meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is advised to provide sufficient swimming space. A sandy substrate is essential to mimic its natural environment and allow natural burrowing behaviour.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow. Good filtration and regular water changes are important to ensure water quality.
Additional Care: Provide hiding spots using live rock or artificial caves to reduce stress. This species may be shy initially but will become more active as it acclimates.
