The Blue Head Goby (Gobiodon spp) is a small, peaceful fish prized for its striking blue head and suitability for reef aquariums. These gobies are typically found inhabiting coral branches, where they find shelter and establish territories.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and reef safe, Blue Head Gobies coexist well with other non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. They may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar species, so it is best to keep only one individual per tank or a compatible pair.
Diet: They are carnivorous and thrive on a varied diet of finely chopped meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes designed for carnivorous fish.
Tank Requirements: Due to their small size and natural habitat, a minimum tank size of 30 litres (approximately 8 gallons) is recommended, with plenty of live rock or branching corals to provide hiding places and territories.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow to mimic their natural reef environment.
Additional Care: Blue Head Gobies appreciate well-established reef tanks with healthy coral growth. They are sensitive to poor water quality, so regular maintenance and water changes are essential.
