Naso annulatus, commonly known as the Humpback Unicorn Tang, is a visually stunning species prized for its unique humpback profile and vibrant markings. This small specimen is suitable for marine aquarists with experience in maintaining larger tangs.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and ample swimming space.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar tang species. Best kept singly or in a very large tank with ample hiding spaces.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous. Provide a varied diet rich in marine algae, seaweed sheets, and high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes. Supplement with occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Minimum Tank Size: 250 litres (66 gallons) or larger to accommodate its active swimming behaviour and adult size.
Reef Safety: With Caution. While generally reef safe, Naso annulatus may nip at soft corals or clam mantles, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure good water quality with regular maintenance.
Placement: Provide plenty of open swimming space along with rockwork for shelter. Avoid overcrowding to reduce stress and aggression.
