Macolor niger, commonly known as the Black and White Snapper, is a visually impressive marine fish prized by experienced hobbyists. This medium-sized snapper features a distinctive black and white pattern that becomes more pronounced with age, making it a captivating centrepiece in larger marine aquariums.

Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-maintained environment.

Temperament and Compatibility: Macolor niger is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially as it matures. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species to prevent stress or predation.

Diet: Carnivorous. Offer a varied diet including meaty foods such as chopped seafood, crustaceans, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes to ensure optimal health.

Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Provide plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas to mimic its natural reef-associated habitat.
