Plerogyra sinuosa, commonly referred to as Bubble Coral, is a popular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its distinctive inflated vesicles that resemble bubbles. This medium-sized specimen offers a dynamic and eye-catching addition to reef aquariums, providing both texture and gentle movement.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is ideal for Plerogyra sinuosa. It thrives under LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems that provide balanced PAR levels without excessive intensity, which can cause bleaching.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is recommended. Strong currents can damage the delicate bubble vesicles, so positioning in areas with indirect flow is best.
Placement: Place this coral on the substrate or lower to middle sections of the tank where it has room to expand its vesicles without touching neighbouring corals. Adequate spacing is essential to prevent aggression and ensure healthy growth.
Diet: Plerogyra sinuosa benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialised coral foods, especially during evening hours when its tentacles extend.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This coral is generally reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid stinging interactions. It is peaceful and compatible with most reef inhabitants.
Care Level: Moderate care level, suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is important to maintain stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels to support skeletal growth. Avoid sudden changes in lighting or flow to reduce stress.
