The Tridacna Crocea clam, often referred to as the boring clam, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a vibrant and manageable invertebrate. This Grade A specimen measures approximately 10cm and is well suited to reef tanks with stable water parameters.
Care and Husbandry: This clam requires moderate to strong lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, which provide much of its nutritional needs through photosynthesis. Supplementary feeding is generally not necessary but can include phytoplankton or specialised clam foods if desired.
Water flow should be moderate to low to prevent tissue damage while ensuring adequate oxygenation. Placement is important; position the clam on a stable substrate or rockwork where it can attach securely and receive optimal light exposure.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Tridacna Crocea is considered reef safe and compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may nip at the clam’s mantle.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water parameters with regular testing, focusing on calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels to support shell growth. A minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable conditions.
