Eucidaris tribuloides is a robust and visually striking sea urchin species popular among marine aquarium enthusiasts. Known for its distinctive spines and hardy nature, it is an excellent addition to reef-safe tanks where it contributes to algae and detritus control.
Care and Husbandry: This species thrives in well-established marine aquariums with stable water parameters. Maintain temperature between 22-26°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH around 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow is recommended to mimic natural conditions without causing stress.
Feeding: Eucidaris tribuloides primarily grazes on algae and biofilm but will benefit from supplemental feeding with dried seaweed (nori), algae wafers, or specialised invertebrate foods to ensure optimal health.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This sea urchin is generally reef safe and compatible with a wide range of invertebrates and fish. However, caution is advised when housing with slow-moving or delicate corals, as the urchin’s spines can cause incidental damage if it moves over them.
Placement: Provide ample rockwork and crevices for shelter and grazing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or species that may prey on or harass the urchin.
Available in various sizes to suit different aquarium setups and preferences.
