Comatula spp. (Orange) are striking featherstars known for their vibrant orange colour and delicate, feathery arms. These invertebrates add dynamic movement and natural beauty to marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate. Featherstars require stable water conditions and regular feeding.
Feeding: Comatula spp. are suspension feeders, capturing plankton and fine particulate foods from the water column. Supplement their diet with finely chopped marine plankton, phytoplankton, or specialised invertebrate foods 2-3 times weekly.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe and peaceful, they coexist well with other invertebrates and non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing with predatory species that may nip at their delicate arms.
Tank Requirements: Provide moderate water flow to facilitate feeding without causing stress. Position them on stable rockwork or substrate where they can anchor securely. A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to maintain water quality and provide adequate space.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality.
Due to the genus-level identification (spp.), exact origin and maximum size vary; however, conservative husbandry practices ensure their health and longevity in captivity.
