Metasepia pfefferi, commonly known as the Flamboyant Cuttlefish, is a small but spectacular cephalopod prized for its vivid colouration and intriguing behaviours. This listing offers a pair of these fascinating invertebrates in various sizes, perfect for marine enthusiasts with advanced aquarium experience.
Care and Husbandry: Metasepia pfefferi requires a well-established marine aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended to provide adequate space for movement and hunting. They thrive in tanks with moderate water flow and subdued lighting to mimic their natural environment.
Feeding should consist of live or frozen meaty foods such as small crustaceans and marine worms. Regular feeding is essential due to their high metabolism. Compatibility with other tank inhabitants should be carefully considered; these cuttlefish are best kept either singly or as a pair in species-specific setups, as they can be territorial and predatory towards smaller invertebrates and fish.
Reef Safety: With caution. While generally compatible with larger reef inhabitants, Metasepia pfefferi may prey on small crustaceans and other invertebrates, so they are not fully reef safe.
Additional Notes: This species is known for its unique ability to display vivid, changing colour patterns and a distinctive walking behaviour on the substrate. They are sensitive to water quality fluctuations and require attentive care.
