Parupeneus barberinoides, commonly known as the Yellowstripe Goatfish, is a captivating species renowned for its distinctive yellow lateral stripe and dynamic foraging behaviour. This extra large specimen is perfect for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a visually striking and active fish.
Appearance and Behaviour: This goatfish displays a slender body with a prominent yellow stripe running from head to tail, complemented by a pale body colouration. It is an active bottom feeder, often seen sifting through substrate with its barbels to locate small invertebrates.
Tank Requirements: Due to its size and activity level, a minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and a suitable sandy substrate for natural foraging behaviour. The tank should be well-established with stable water parameters.
Compatibility: Generally peaceful but may show territorial tendencies towards conspecifics or similar species. Compatible with a range of other peaceful to semi-aggressive marine fish. Avoid housing with very small invertebrates as they may be preyed upon.
Diet: Carnivorous, feeding primarily on benthic invertebrates. Offer a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets to ensure optimal health.
Reef Safety: With caution – may disturb small invertebrates and corals while foraging, so not recommended for delicate reef setups.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced due to size and dietary needs.
