Ostracion solorensis, commonly known as the Solor Boxfish, is a visually captivating species prized for its distinctive box-like shape and vibrant colouration. Available as a pair in various sizes, these fish make an intriguing addition to mature marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Ostracion solorensis requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank environment.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be shy. They are best kept with non-aggressive tankmates to avoid stress.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and algae-based foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and maintain water quality.
Reef Safe: With Caution. While generally reef compatible, they may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals, so careful monitoring is advised.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. No special lighting needs.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal to mimic their natural environment without causing stress.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing. They appreciate a well-structured environment with ample cover.
