Diodon liturosus, commonly known as the Blackspotted Puffer, is a captivating marine fish prized for its unique appearance and intriguing behaviour. This small pufferfish features a distinctive pattern of black spots across its body and is known for inflating itself as a defence mechanism.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a mature aquarium setup.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial. It is best kept singly or with non-aggressive tankmates.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including hard-shelled foods such as molluscs and crustaceans to help wear down their continuously growing teeth.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May nip at invertebrates and corals, so not recommended for sensitive reef tanks.
