The Arothron stellatus, commonly known as the Starry Pufferfish, is a captivating addition to large marine aquariums. Recognised by its unique pattern of white spots on a dark body, this species can grow to a considerable size and demands a well-maintained environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially with conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or with robust tank mates that are not small enough to be considered prey. Avoid housing with delicate or slow-moving fish.
Diet: Omnivorous with a preference for meaty foods. Provide a varied diet including molluscs, crustaceans, and prepared frozen foods. Their strong beak requires hard-shelled foods to help wear down teeth.
Tank Requirements: Due to their large adult size, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Stable water parameters and excellent filtration are essential to maintain water quality.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure health and well-being.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. May nip at invertebrates or corals, so not ideal for sensitive reef setups.
