The Arothron reticularis, commonly called the Reticulated Pufferfish, is a striking addition to any large marine aquarium. This extra large specimen displays a unique network-like pattern across its body, making it a visually captivating fish.
Care Level: This species is best suited for advanced aquarists due to its size and specific care requirements. It demands a well-maintained environment and a diet rich in hard-shelled foods to support beak maintenance.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial. It is advisable to keep this pufferfish with robust tank mates that are not small enough to be considered prey. Avoid housing with invertebrates, as they may be targeted.
Diet: Carnivorous, requiring a varied diet including molluscs, crustaceans, and specialised frozen or prepared foods. Regular feeding of hard-shelled prey items helps prevent beak overgrowth.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to accommodate its active swimming and territorial behaviour. Provide plenty of hiding places and a secure lid, as puffers are known jumpers.
Reef Safety: With Caution – may nip at corals and invertebrates, so reef compatibility is limited.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.020-1.025 SG, and good water quality.
