The Arothron nigropunctatus, commonly called the Blackspotted Puffer, is a visually stunning species prized for its distinctive black spots and robust body. This XXL specimen is suitable for advanced marine aquarium keepers due to its size and specific care requirements.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially with other puffers or slow-moving fish. Best housed with similarly sized, robust tank mates. Avoid small, delicate species that may be harassed.
Diet: Carnivorous and requires a varied diet including hard-shelled foods such as molluscs and crustaceans to help wear down its continuously growing teeth. Supplement with frozen or live seafood like shrimp, squid, and specialised puffer pellets.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended for this XXL individual to provide ample swimming space and reduce stress. Maintain stable water parameters with regular water changes and efficient filtration.
Reef Safety: With Caution – may nip at invertebrates and corals, so not recommended for delicate reef setups.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 50 cm in length.
Providing a well-structured environment with plenty of hiding places and moderate water flow will help mimic its natural habitat and promote health.
