The Falco Hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys falco) is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vibrant colours and engaging behaviour. This species is a member of the hawkfish family, known for perching on rocks and corals while observing its surroundings.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, the Falco Hawkfish can coexist with a variety of tank mates but may show territorial behaviour towards smaller or more passive fish. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger species to avoid stress or aggression.
Diet: This carnivorous fish thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of varied frozen or live foods will ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for perching and hiding spots.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow is preferred to mimic natural reef environments.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, the Falco Hawkfish may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimp or small crabs, so compatibility with delicate reef inhabitants should be monitored.
Available in various sizes, this species can be selected to suit your aquarium setup and stocking preferences.
