Antennarius maculatus, known as the Warty Frogfish, is a captivating addition to mature marine aquariums. This large specimen exhibits remarkable camouflage, blending seamlessly with its surroundings to ambush prey.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Frogfish require stable water conditions and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Generally solitary and sedentary. They are ambush predators and may consume tankmates small enough to fit in their mouths.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed primarily on live or frozen meaty foods such as small fish, crustaceans, and shrimp. Feeding frequency should be 2-3 times per week.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide adequate space and stable water parameters.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is sufficient, mimicking natural reef shadows.
Water Flow: Low to moderate water movement to avoid stressing the frogfish.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock or coral rubble for hiding and ambush spots. Avoid placing with very small or aggressive fish.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches).
Due to their predatory nature, Antennarius maculatus should be housed with caution alongside other tank inhabitants. They are best suited for species-specific or carefully planned community tanks.
