Pomacanthus maculosus, commonly known as the Yellowbar Angelfish, is a captivating species prized for its distinctive colouration and bold markings. This XXL specimen represents a mature individual, showcasing the full splendour of its natural patterning.
Care Level: This species is best suited for advanced marine aquarists due to its size and specific care requirements.
Temperament: Generally semi-aggressive, Pomacanthus maculosus can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics or similar species. It is advisable to keep only one individual per tank or ensure ample space and hiding places.
Diet: Omnivorous, requiring a varied diet including marine algae, sponges, and high-quality meaty foods such as mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of prepared angelfish formulas is recommended to maintain optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: Due to its large adult size, a minimum tank volume of 500 litres (approximately 130 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory.
Reef Safety: With Caution. While Pomacanthus maculosus may occasionally nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and sponges, individual behaviour varies. It is best kept in fish-only or mixed reef systems with robust corals.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure stable water parameters with excellent filtration and regular maintenance.
Placement: Provide ample rockwork for grazing and shelter. Position the fish in a well-established aquarium with mature biological filtration.
Origin: Native to the northwestern Indian Ocean, including the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf.
Maximum Size: Up to 45 cm (18 inches) in length.
