Pomacanthus maculosus, commonly called the Arabian Angelfish, is a captivating species prized for its vibrant colours and distinctive spotted pattern. This extra large specimen is suitable for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its size and care requirements.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Arabian Angelfish is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and other angelfish. It is best housed singly or with robust tank mates that can tolerate its assertive nature. Avoid keeping with very small or timid fish.
Diet: This species is omnivorous, requiring a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential size of up to 45 cm (18 inches), a minimum tank size of 500 litres (approximately 130 gallons) is advised. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places. Stable water parameters and excellent filtration are essential.
Reef Safety: Pomacanthus maculosus is generally not reef safe as it may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates.
Water Parameters: Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
With proper care, this extra large Arabian Angelfish can be a stunning centrepiece in a suitably sized marine aquarium.
