The Multicolour Angelfish (Centropyge multicolor) is a visually stunning species prized for its vivid coloration and dynamic presence in marine aquaria. This large variant is best suited for advanced aquarists due to its specific care requirements and temperament.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a mature tank environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 150 litres (approximately 40 US gallons) or larger to accommodate its active swimming and territorial behaviour.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, it may nip at corals and clam mantles, so monitor closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Avoid overly intense lighting to reduce stress.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce aggression and stress.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches).
Regular water changes and stable water chemistry are essential for maintaining the health of this species. Avoid housing with very passive or slow-moving fish to prevent bullying.
