The Naso lituratus, also known as the Naso Tang or Lipstick Tang, is a visually stunning surgeonfish prized for its vibrant colours and dynamic swimming behaviour. This small variant is suitable for marine aquarists with intermediate to advanced experience, particularly those maintaining larger reef tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but territorial towards conspecifics and similar tang species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample swimming space to reduce aggression. Compatible with a wide range of reef-safe fish but may nip at certain sessile invertebrates, so caution is advised.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, requiring a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore flakes, pellets, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size recommended is 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) to provide sufficient swimming room. Stable water parameters and excellent filtration are essential to maintain health.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and moderate water flow are ideal, replicating their natural reef environment.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Up to 40 cm (16 inches) in adulthood, though this small variant will initially be smaller.
