Perna viridis, commonly known as the Green Mussel, is a robust bivalve mollusc prized in marine aquariums for its natural filtration abilities and reef-safe nature. Available here in large clusters, these mussels attach firmly to rockwork and substrates, enhancing the biodiversity and ecological balance of your tank.
Care and Husbandry: Green Mussels thrive in well-established marine aquariums with stable water parameters. They are filter feeders, relying on plankton and suspended organic particles, so a nutrient-rich environment with moderate to strong water flow is ideal to ensure adequate food delivery.
Maintain water temperatures between 22-28°C and salinity around 1.023-1.025 SG. Regular water changes and good filtration will support their health and longevity. Avoid placing them in tanks with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may disturb or prey on them.
Compatibility: These mussels are reef safe and can coexist peacefully with corals, fish, and other invertebrates. They contribute to water clarity by filtering out particulate matter, making them a beneficial addition to reef systems.
Placement: Attach clusters to stable rock surfaces in areas with moderate to strong water flow to maximise feeding efficiency. Ensure they are secure to prevent dislodgement.
