Acropora speciosa is a captivating small polyp stony (SPS) coral known for its elaborate branching and vibrant hues, making it a prized addition to mature reef aquariums. This medium-sized specimen demands attentive care and stable water parameters to thrive.
Lighting Requirements
Strong, high-intensity lighting is essential for Acropora speciosa, ideally provided by metal halide, T5, or high-quality LED systems designed for reef tanks. Aim for PAR levels between 250-400 µmol/m²/s to support optimal photosynthesis.
Water Flow
Moderate to high water flow is recommended to ensure adequate gas exchange and to prevent detritus accumulation on the coral’s surface. Randomised, turbulent flow patterns are preferred over direct, constant currents.
Placement
Position Acropora speciosa higher in the aquarium to maximise light exposure while maintaining sufficient water movement. Provide ample space from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions and ensure healthy growth.
Care Level
This species is best suited to experienced aquarists familiar with maintaining stable reef conditions. Consistent water parameters, including temperature (24-27°C), salinity (1.025-1.026 SG), alkalinity (8-12 dKH), calcium (400-450 ppm), and magnesium (1250-1350 ppm), are critical.
Additional Notes
Regular monitoring and maintenance of water quality, along with supplementation of trace elements, will support vibrant coloration and robust growth. Fragging should be performed carefully to avoid stress.
