Macropharyngodon geoffroy is a striking wrasse species prized for its vibrant colours and peaceful temperament. This species is best suited to experienced hobbyists with established marine aquariums due to its specific care requirements.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Macropharyngodon geoffroy coexists well with other non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing with large predatory species that may stress or prey upon it.
Diet: This wrasse thrives on a varied diet including meaty frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with high-quality marine pellets or flakes to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock to offer natural grazing opportunities and hiding places.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally safe with corals and invertebrates, monitor interactions closely as some wrasses may nip at sessile invertebrates.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow and good filtration are essential for health.
Macropharyngodon geoffroy is available in various sizes, allowing aquarists to select specimens suitable for their tank maturity and experience level.
