Halichoeres timorensis is a striking wrasse species known for its vivid colours and dynamic swimming behaviour, making it a captivating addition to marine aquariums. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this species thrives in tanks that replicate its natural environment with plenty of live rock and sandy substrate.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar wrasses. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample hiding spots.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with marine pellets or flakes formulated for carnivorous fish.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide sufficient swimming space. A sandy substrate is essential to allow natural burrowing behaviour. Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and foraging.
Compatibility: Compatible with most peaceful community fish but avoid aggressive tank mates. Suitable for reef tanks with caution, as wrasses may prey on small invertebrates.
Reef Safety: With Caution – may feed on small crustaceans and ornamental invertebrates.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are appropriate to mimic natural reef conditions.
