Halichoeres rubricephalus is a visually captivating wrasse species prized for its vibrant colours and active swimming behaviour. This large variant is suitable for experienced marine aquarists with established tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar wrasse species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with ample hiding spaces. Compatible with a variety of peaceful community fish but avoid aggressive tankmates.
Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of high-quality frozen or live foods is recommended to maintain health and colour vibrancy.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 150 litres is advised to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. A well-established aquarium with live rock offers natural foraging opportunities and shelter.
Water Parameters and Environment: Stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and moderate water flow are ideal. Lighting requirements are standard for marine fish; no special lighting needed.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. May prey on small invertebrates, so not recommended for delicate reef tanks with small ornamental invertebrates.
