Coris atlantica is a captivating temperate wrasse native to cooler Atlantic waters. This species is prized for its vivid colouration and dynamic swimming patterns, making it a fascinating addition to temperate marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Coris atlantica requires stable water parameters and a suitably sized aquarium to thrive.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar wrasses. Best kept singly or in a well-established community with compatible species.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine pellets formulated for carnivorous fish.
Minimum Tank Size: 150 litres (approximately 40 US gallons) or larger to provide sufficient swimming space and territory.
Tank Setup: Provide a sandy substrate to allow natural burrowing and resting behaviours. Include live rock for shelter and grazing opportunities. Maintain stable temperate water conditions with temperatures between 18-22°C.
Compatibility: Suitable for temperate community tanks with other peaceful to semi-aggressive species. Avoid housing with overly aggressive fish or very small invertebrates that may be preyed upon.
Reef Safe: With Caution. May prey on small invertebrates; not recommended for delicate reef tanks with vulnerable corals or invertebrates.
