Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus laboutei) is a stunning marine fish prized for its vivid colours and graceful swimming. This medium-sized wrasse is suitable for experienced hobbyists who can provide a stable, well-established reef environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. It may show some territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar species, so it is best kept singly or in a mated pair in a tank of adequate size.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplementing with quality marine pellets or flakes ensures balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. The aquarium should be mature with plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow and moderate to high lighting support a healthy reef environment.
Reef Compatibility: Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse is considered reef safe with caution, as it may occasionally nip at small invertebrates. Monitor behaviour closely when introducing to reef tanks.
This species is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium, combining beauty with manageable care requirements when husbandry guidelines are followed.
