Gramma dejongi, commonly known as the Basslet, is a captivating marine fish renowned for its vivid purple front half and bright yellow rear half. This large variant is a standout addition to any marine aquarium, especially reef setups, due to its peaceful temperament and reef-safe nature.

Care Level: Moderate. While hardy, Gramma dejongi benefits from stable water parameters and a well-established tank.

Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and shy, this species coexists well with other non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing with large, predatory species. It is reef safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates.

Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and marine pellets or flakes to ensure optimal health and colour vibrancy.

Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory.

Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow mimic their natural reef environment and support their wellbeing.

Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with caves and crevices for hiding and establishing territory. This helps reduce stress and encourages natural behaviour.

Origin: Native to the Caribbean Sea, particularly around the island of Curaçao.
