Pseudochromis aldabraensis, commonly known as the Aldabra Dottyback, is a strikingly colourful marine fish prized for its vibrant hues and engaging behaviour. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens better adapted to aquarium life.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for hobbyists with some marine aquarium experience.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Pseudochromis aldabraensis can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and smaller, more passive fish. It is best kept singly or as a mated pair in a suitably sized aquarium.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and specialised pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish.
Minimum Tank Size: 75 litres (20 gallons) recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
Reef Safe: With Caution. While generally compatible with invertebrates and corals, some dottybacks may nip at small or delicate reef inhabitants.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needed.
Water Flow: Moderate water movement preferred to mimic natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and hiding spots to establish territory and reduce stress.
Origin: Not Provided (Tank-Bred)
Maximum Size: Approximately 7 cm (2.8 inches) in length.
Tank-bred specimens of Pseudochromis aldabraensis are more robust and acclimate better to aquarium conditions compared to wild-caught fish. Their vibrant colours and active nature make them a popular choice for marine hobbyists seeking a manageable yet visually appealing dottyback.
